Brita Water Filter – What Are The Black Particles?

September 22nd, 2009 by admin

Lots of people are using Brita water filters and sometimes they will find small black particles in their water. It’s absolutely nothing to worry about. The standard Brita Maxtra filter cartridge works by passing the water through a filter which contains activated charcoal. The small black particles are just tiny flakes of charcoal which have been displaced – usually during transportation. That’s why you most often see them just after you’ve changed the cartridge. The charcoal is perfectly safe – it’s food grade and would do you know harm at all if you were to swallow it. However, if you really don’t like it then just run a couple of passes of water theough your filter cartridge and that should do the trick.
