Colon Cancer Surgery for Diverticulitis

January 29th, 2008 by admin

Only about 25% of everybody that is hospitalized with diverticulitis end up going through Colon Cancer Surgery to treat the disease.  For those that do go through surgery, it is a matter of removing the part of the colon which is affected and a small portion of colon on either side.  The patient will typically end up with a colostomy bag although this is a temporary situation for the most part. Once the colon is healed from the diverticulitis surgery, the colon is reconnected and the colostomy bag is no longer necessary.
