Lower back pain is extremely common

February 28th, 2009 by admin

The commonest complaints to doctors today involve lower back pain.  Whether it is described as a simple dull constant ache, or sharp and stabbing pain the fact is the problem is real and causes many days of missed work for those individuals affected by it.

Backbones (the spine) involve many nerves, muscles, tendons, and joints all capable of causing painful conditions.  There are large nerves in the spine, the sciatic nerve, which is the largest in your body.  When this nerve is damaged or pinched, usually due to a herniated disk pressing on the nerve,  the pain travels through them, usually down the back of a leg maybe even coursing down to the buttocks and down to the feet, thus creating a painful condition called sciatica.
