There are a few different types of wood that are used in above ground pool decks.  The most popular choice is redwood, which is a great wood to have as a pool deck.  However, be prepared to do a lot of maintenance on this wood like using a sealer.  This type of wood also does do very well under damp conditions.  However, with above ground pool decks there is less chance of encountering damp conditions so that is an advantage. 

Think about the cost of materials and the cost of labor for an above ground pool deck.  Redwood is a very expensive wood.  However, if you can afford redwood and do not mind the maintenance it is an excellent choice for an above ground pool deck.
