As the New Zealand economy sails along in unfamiliar waters, the conference rooms in christchurch continue to be filled.Just looking at the latest employment figures is enough to almost guarantee this. For the last nine years this country has enjoyed economic growth. That has not been matched since World War Two! Unemployment here stands at a record low of just 3.4 percent. Compare that to the 4.1 percent unemployment in Australia. And, as another indicator, the number of new jobs created in this nine years is 370,000. That is a lot of work.Consequently, we are not surprised at the confidence among conference organizers and conference venue owners here in the Garden City, Christchurch. Although there are warnings and predictions about business future, the fact of our long growth period is very real, and making conferences and conventions more viable. As businesses keep turning over product and profit, their ability to support conferences continues. This sector has been strong in Christchurch for a number of years, and our economy will support it for some time to come, it would seem.
